Parish Notices
WELCOME A huge welcome to Brother Chris Colaco into our parish. Brother Chris is a major seminarian at Saint Mary’s College, Oscott in Birmingham. He is with us for a few weeks on parish placement. It will be an opportunity for our brother to discern his vocation to the catholic priesthood in the context of everyday parish life. He will be available for house visits and family prayer session. Please keep Chris in your prayers.
CONGRATULATIONS to Arabella Panting who will be Baptised on Saturday 20th January. Please keep Arabella, her parents, Grandparents and Godparents in your prayers.
YOUTH RETREAT From 9th – 11th of February there is a great opportunity for young people to gather together for their own residential youth weekend called Lux-Dive. For more information and booking please see www.nymo.org/lux-dive.
MESSY CHURCH Neline Kriek from St Paul’s Church, Stoke Road, Slough, is organising Messy Church at St Paul’s on Saturday 20th January. You might have heard of Messy Church, it is an event aimed at primary school-age children and their families where we do a range of craft and science activities and have a celebration time with songs and a message from the Bible. It is a really good event to invite non-church friends to. There is no charge, but we ask people to book a ticket so we know how many folk to expect. It would also be great if you could pray for the event.
POPE FRANCIS’ PRAYER INTENTION FOR JANUARY 2024 For the Gift of Diversity in the Church We pray that the Holy Spirit may help us recognise the gift of different charisms within the Christian community, and to discover the richness of different ritual traditions in the heart of the Catholic Church.
SUNDAY OF THE WORD OF GOD – 21ST JANUARY The motto chosen for this year is taken from the Gospel of St John: “Remain in my Word” (John 8,3). Bishop David will, preside at the liturgy at 3pm in the Cathedral which will be live streamed. All readers are encouraged to take part, where he will commission them in their ministry for the coming year.
WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY From 18 – 25 January is the annual week of prayer for Christian Unity. There will be a service on Sunday 21st January at Our Lady of Peace Church at 3.00pm, to which all are invited. Refreshments available.
OFFERTORY The collection for 7th January amounted to £984.61. The DONA plate offerings amounted to £117.49 for this weekend. The Tea & Coffee collection for 7th January amounted to £26.56. We are very grateful for your continued support.
RETIRING COLLECTION There will be a retiring collection next weekend for Lepra. Over 3 million people are living with undiagnosed leprosy, which if not treated early enough may result in life-changing physical and mental health issues that can destroy people’s lives. Leprosy, although curable is sadly surrounded by myths and discrimination, which often prevents people from coming forward to seek treatment. Lepra aims to change the negatives that surround the disease of leprosy and remains committed to making sure that people affected by leprosy have the chance to live with dignity and their disease be of little adverse consequence to their lives. A short film on their work is available on YouTube.
RED BOXES The exchange of Red Boxes for this year will be in operation this weekend and next. Would all MISSIO donors please collect the boxes for the new year, 2024, and bring in boxes from last year for the first banking of this year. All boxes have been washed to ensure they are bacteria-free. Any spare/excess boxes you may find at home will be gratefully received. Whenever you return a box to church, would you kindly ensure it gets to a pair of trusted hands. Missio expresses its thanks for your continued support.

CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
