AFTERNOON TEA PARTY The Parish Tea Party planning team would like to thank everyone who came along or helped to make the recent event such a success. We raised £2,590 in total which is a terrific team effort and a very good amount for the building project.
The next fundraiser is a Christmas music concert at Our Lady of Peace on the evening of Tuesday 12th December (put the date in your diaries please) and we shall look forward to seeing you all there for what should be another very entertaining social event.

HOST OUR LADY WITH THE ROSARY CAMPAIGN “When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. (John 19:26-27). In October, the month of the Holy Rosary, we have the opportunity to be the loving Disciples of Christ who bring Our Blessed Mother home.
Our parish clergy will be available to pray with individuals and families in their homes. Throughout the month of October, a lovely statue of Our Lady of Fatima will visit our homes as we strive to pray the rosary all month long. Please contact Venecia, our Parish Secretary, via email office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org or by phone at 0162860576 to express your interest and provide a few preferable dates.
CHURCH CLEANING Following on from our recent spring clean at Our Lady of Peace Church, Fr Anthony is keen to establish a cleaning rota. Please contact Liz Bamber on eabamber1[AT]gmail.com or 07860840593 if you could spare a little time for this important ministry. Cleaning materials and equipment will be supplied. Thank you.
OFFERTORY The collection for 10th September amounted to £750.62. The DONA plate offerings amounted to £88.14 for this weekends. The retiring collection for Catholic Education Fund amounted to £186.04. We are very grateful for your continued support.
RETIRING COLLECTION There will be a mandatory retiring collection this weekend September 16th and 17th for the Bishops’ Conference – Evangelii Gaudium at the end of all Masses.
Evangelii Gaudium Sunday calls us to be joyous in proclaiming our faith. “Evangelii Gaudium” is Latin for “Joy of the Gospel”. The day supports the work carried out by the Mission Directorate on behalf of the Bishops’ Conference.
PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MINUTES copies of the Meeting held on Monday, 4th September are available in the Churches.
“BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER” October is the month of the Holy Rosary, and Bridget from St Andrews has come up with an excellent idea to raise money for the building project: In essence, try to create some time in your day to say the Rosary every day throughout October. It is a wonderful opportunity to deepen faith and converse interiorly with Jesus and Mary.
The Rosary is known for its meditative qualities, and therefore can bring peace and tranquillity to our hectic lives. Bridget’s idea is that we each put aside some money when we say the Rosary and at the end of October, we bring whatever we have collected to Mass. Bridget has produced a lovely little Rosary starter pack for anyone who needs help.
BAPTISM ZOOM MEETING will be held on Monday, 18th September at 7.00pm.This is for first time parents who wish their child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism over the next few months. To register please email Venecia on office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org
BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER Grant applications are an important part of our fundraising efforts for our church’s renovation. We will use the Diocese’s process, but we are now appealing to the parish for someone who can devote a few hours per month to ensuring that we are maximising our efforts in this area. For more information, please see Fr Anthony or Brid Vaughan after Sunday mass.
OLOP REFURBISHMENT We are all reminded that donations to the refurbishment of our Parish Church of Our Lady of Peace are now very welcome. Please find the blue envelopes supplied at the entrance exclusively for monies donated towards church refurbishments. The Dona Plate is also currently set up to accept kind donations for this project, and those who donate via bank transfer or standing order are advised to specify that the payment is specifically for the refurbishment of Our Lady of Peace Church (OLOP Refurbishment). May God, whose house you are helping to build, bless your lives with his Divine blessings.
ECUMENICAL PRAYER WHEEL 2023 In the spirit of Ecumenism, Churches Together in Burnham is inviting local Christian denominations to pray for a specific Church each month. The Together 2023 team have encouraged local participation in this initiative by churches hosting Ecumenical Services on the evening of 30th September. https://together2023.net
THE SEASON OF CREATION begins on 1st September, (The World Day of Prayer for Creation) to 4th October (the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi). The theme of the Season is ‘A Mighty River’. This theme encourages us to add our drop of water to create a ‘A Mighty River’ when we all work together. This ecumenical endeavour has been part of the Catholic Calendar since 2015. Caritas and the Communications Department will be producing resourcing to support this season.
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY This year WORLD MISSION SUNDAY will be observed universally on Sunday 22nd October. The targeted parish is Kibera, Nigeria. Please bear this date in mind.
OUR PARISH LIST OF THE SICK There is a book where you can enter the name of the person to be prayed for. In line with Data Protection legislation please obtain the consent of the person before entering their name in the book. This book will be placed on the altar during each Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church.
SLOUGH FOODBANK are appealing for more donations, the cost of living crisis has resulted in fewer donations and more clients and they are having to use their funds to buy food themselves to meet the current demand. The following link will take you to a list of items which they need. https://slough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help-2/foodbank-wishlist/
CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
