40TH PRIESTLY ANNIVERSARY On Thursday, June 29th, two priests of the Society of African Missions (SMA Fathers) will be celebrating 40 years each in the Lord’s vineyard. Father Tom Ryan, SMA (Provincial Superior) and his year companion, Father John Keane, SMA, will be 40 years old as Priests. After ministering to millions of people in various nations over the last four decades, they have returned home and will be happy with our presence in this celebration. If the people they ministered to are unable to be present for them at this time, can we as a church offer them love as they celebrate their Ruby Jubilees? There will be a Mass at 7.30pm on Thursday 29th in Our lady of Peace, the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, so please come and share in the blessings of 40 years of their priestly vocation.
FATHER MAREK IS 22 YEARS A PRIEST Congratulations to Father Marek, who will be celebrating 22 years of priestly ordination on 29th June 2023. The evening Mass of Thursday 29th June will be a wonderful opportunity for us, as a Parish, to give thanks to God for the gift of Father Marek’s priesthood and ministry among us.
CONGRATULATIONS to Emily Maja McGowan who will be Baptised on Sunday, 25th June. Please keep Emily, her parents, Grandparents and Godparents in your prayers. Also congratulations to Eamonn McLaughlin and Maria Ramirez who are to be Married on Saturday, 1st July. We wish them every happiness in their future life together.
DENISE RETIRES Mrs Denise McClintock, our Parish Sacristan has decided to retire after 12 years of dedicated service to our beloved Parish. As we know, every good liturgy requires plaining and preparation. Denise has always ensured that all is set and ready for our Parish celebrations and liturgies. Denise’s commitment to the pastoral and spiritual lives of the people of this Parish has been tremendous, and she will be sorely missed.
Denise’s final day as Sacristan will be July 2nd 2023. We would like to express our love and affection for her during our 9.30am Mass on July 2nd. Denise, Our Lady of Peace is grateful for your commitment, dedication, and diligence in serving this parish over the years. As a token of our appreciation for her love and service to this Church, a retiring collection will be taken at the end of all Masses.

The Dona Plate is also currently set up to accept kind donations for this project, and those who donate via bank transfer or standing order are advised to specify that the payment is specifically for the refurbishment of Our Lady of Peace Church (OLOP Refurbishment). May God, whose house you are helping to build, bless your lives with his Divine blessings. This weekend Lisa Timms and Anna Goldberg will speak at the 9.30am Mass.
COMMUNION UNDER BOTH KINDS Our Parish will resume the practise of receiving the Body and Blood of our Lord by intinction on Sunday, July 2nd. More parishioners willing to serve as eucharistic ministers are needed to help with this. If you feel called to be a Eucharistic minister, please register with Venecia, our Parish Secretary, or speak to one of the priests, expressing your willingness to attend the retreat and formation for Eucharistic ministers on Saturday, July 1st. We invite more male parishioners to consider becoming eucharistic ministers.
BAPTISM ZOOM MEETING will be held on Monday, 26th June 2023 at 7.00pm. This is for first time parents who wish their child to receive the Sacrament of Baptism over the next few months. To register please email Venecia: office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org
BUILDING OUR TEAM We are blessed with so much talent and skill across the parish and we continue to grow and develop plans for the future. Our need to communicate effectively across the parish is extremely important and as such, we need the assistance of skilled people to help us, in particular with Digital Communications: website development, social media as well as written materials to promote activities and to keep everyone fully engaged with developments for the refurbishment and associated fundraising. We welcome offers of assistance with any or all of the above. If you can offer even a little of your time and your skills, please have a word with Brid Vaughan after Mass on Sundays or email: ppcc.olop[AT]northamptondiocese.org for more information.
ORGANISING ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS ACROSS THE PARISH For anyone organising activities and events in OLP or St Andrew’s, please contact the Parish Office and advise Venecia so she can ensure that the diary is always current and check for clashes of venue or dates.
“BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER” Afternoon Tea Party on Saturday, 2nd September. The organisers of the ‘Afternoon Tea Party’ fundraising event for the Parish needs help with the following items:
- Marquee/gazebo
- Prosecco glasses
- Teapots
If you can loan any of the above for the event, please contact Anna Goldberg on 07532 338874.
ECUMENICAL PRAYER WHEEL 2023 In the spirit of Ecumenism, Churches Together in Burnham is inviting local Christian denominations to pray for a specific Church each month. This month, June 2023, at Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s Parish, we pray for the Christian community at St Mary’s Church, Hitcham asking the Lord to bless them and all they do.
MOTHERS PRAYERS Please note Mothers prayers will be taking a break and the resumption will be communicated in due course.
RED BOXES The half-yearly swap of Boxes will take place on Sunday 25th June and Sunday 2nd July. Would you kindly bring your Boxes in next Sunday (or any weekday) from today onwards. Many Boxes were not returned at the year-end and there is consequently an acute current shortage. Lack of coinage was a widespread reason for non-returns. But the missionary effort needs to be maintained. Please consider an alternative method of donating. Forms are available to enable the transition.
CWL The CWL are holding a Handbags and Scarves stall at Burnham Village Fair on Saturday, 8th July. If you have any of these items in good condition to donate we would be delighted if you could drop them in the boxes in the porch at Our Lady of Peace Church and St Andrews in the CWL crate before Thursday, 6th July. Thank you for your support.
ST GILBERT’S MISSION PROJECT There are little bottles in the Church porches for any spare change! Please take one home and return when filled up.
TEA AND COFFEE refreshments are available each Sunday after the 9.30am Mass.
COFFEE SHOP is held at St Andrew’s every Saturday morning from 10.00am – 12.00noon. It is open to everyone, please pop in and enjoy tea/coffee and cake!
OUR PARISH LIST OF THE SICK There is a book where you can enter the name of the person to be prayed for. In line with Data Protection legislation please obtain the consent of the person before entering their name in the book. This book will be placed on the altar during each Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church.
MASS INTENTIONS If you wish to book a Mass Intention please place the intention in an envelope, write the name of the person(s) who the Mass is for, whether Deceased or Intention, also the name of the person who is offering the Mass. This will avoid any disappointment on the Mass intentions not being offered on the requested date(s).
SLOUGH FOODBANK are appealing for more donations, the cost of living crisis has resulted in fewer donations and more clients and they are having to use their funds to buy food themselves to meet the current demand. The following link will take you to a list of items which they need. https://slough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help-2/foodbank-wishlist/
CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
