PILGRIMS OF HOPE As we all know, Bishop David has requested that every parish participate in the next round of our diocese’s Synod. The Bishop has requested that parishes send delegates to represent their parish communities during the diocesan Assembly on Saturday, July 15th, 2023.
We are eternally grateful to the parishioners listed below for accepting the invitation to serve as delegates for our Parish at the assembly. In no particular order: Lizzy Warner, Oliver Athila Ventura, Andy Marcelin, Noreen Marcelin, Edward Agbaje, Anitha Babu, Maria Corcoran, Maura Porter.
The Assembly reflections will encompass our diocesan resources, including people, property, and cash. Let us kindly pray for our delegates that they be open to the Holy Spirit as we identify missionary future for our diocese.
RETREAT There will be a one day retreat for Extraordinary Ministers of the Holy Eucharist. On July 1st 2023, from 11.00am to 3.00pm, at St. Andrews Cippenham. The formation and retreat will be led by Mgr. Kevin McGinnell, Chairman of the diocesan commission on Sacred Liturgy. We strongly encourage all current eucharistic ministers to attend this session, as it is critical to the future of eucharistic ministry in our parish. Are you also interested in becoming a Eucharistic minister? Please contact Venecia at office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org. We invite those who plan to participate in this formation to contact our Parish secretary by June 29th 2023, to assist with planning.
BUILDING OUR TEAM We are blessed with so much talent and skill across the parish and we continue to grow and develop plans for the future. Our need to communicate effectively across the parish is extremely important and as such, we need the assistance of skilled people to help us, in particular with Digital Communications: website development, social media as well as written materials to promote activities and to keep everyone fully engaged with developments for the refurbishment and associated fundraising. We welcome offers of assistance with any or all of the above. If you can offer even a little of your time and your skills, please have a word with Brid Vaughan after Mass on Sundays or email: ppcc.olop[AT]northamptondiocese.org for more information.
ORGANISING ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS ACROSS THE PARISH For anyone organising activities and events in OLP or St Andrew’s, please contact the Parish Office and advise Venecia so she can ensure that the diary is always current and check for clashes of venue or dates.
“BUILDING OUR FUTURE TOGETHER” Afternoon Tea Party on Saturday, 2nd September. The organisers of the ‘Afternoon Tea Party’ fundraising event for the Parish needs help with the following items:
- Marquee/gazebo
- Prosecco glasses
- Teapots
If you can loan any of the above for the event, please contact Anna Goldberg on 07532 338874.
ECUMENICAL PRAYER WHEEL 2023 In the spirit of Ecumenism, Churches Together in Burnham is inviting local Christian denominations to pray for a specific Church each month. This month, June 2023, at Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s Parish, we pray for the Christian community at St Mary’s Church, Hitcham asking the Lord to bless them and all they do.
MOTHERS PRAYERS Meetings take place at 10.30am on Thursday mornings. This is a wonderful opportunity to pray for our children and grandchildren. Please note that beginning next week Mothers prayers will be taking a break and the resumption will be communicated in due course.
MOTHERS PRAYER INTENTION BOOK This is available at the Sacristy for your use. The mothers’ prayer group will pray for the intentions contained therein during their meetings on Thursdays.
RED BOXES The half-yearly swap of Boxes will take place on Sunday 25th June and Sunday 2nd July. Would you kindly bring your Boxes in next Sunday (or any weekday) from today onwards. Many Boxes were not returned at the year-end and there is consequently an acute current shortage. Lack of coinage was a widespread reason for non-returns. But the missionary effort needs to be maintained. Please consider an alternative method of donating. Forms are available to enable the transition.
OLOP REFURBISHMENT We are all reminded that donations to the refurbishment of our Parish Church of Our Lady of Peace are now very welcome. Please find the blue envelopes supplied at the entrance exclusively for monies donated towards church refurbishments. The Dona Plate is also currently set up to accept kind donations for this project, and those who donate via bank transfer or standing order are advised to specify that the payment is specifically for the refurbishment of Our Lady of Peace Church (OLOP Refurbishment). May God, whose house you are helping to build, bless your lives with his Divine blessings.
ST GILBERT’S MISSION PROJECT There are little bottles in the Church porches for any spare change! Please take one home and return when filled up.
TEA AND COFFEE refreshments are available each Sunday after the 9.30am Mass.
COFFEE SHOP is held at St Andrew’s every Saturday morning from 10.00am – 12.00noon. It is open to everyone, please pop in and enjoy tea/coffee and cake!
OUR PARISH LIST OF THE SICK There is a book where you can enter the name of the person to be prayed for. In line with Data Protection legislation please obtain the consent of the person before entering their name in the book. This book will be placed on the altar during each Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church.
MASS INTENTIONS If you wish to book a Mass Intention please place the intention in an envelope, write the name of the person(s) who the Mass is for, whether Deceased or Intention, also the name of the person who is offering the Mass. This will avoid any disappointment on the Mass intentions not being offered on the requested date(s).
SLOUGH FOODBANK are appealing for more donations, the cost of living crisis has resulted in fewer donations and more clients and they are having to use their funds to buy food themselves to meet the current demand. The following link will take you to a list of items which they need. https://slough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help-2/foodbank-wishlist/
CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
