COMMUNICATIONS SUNDAY there will be a retiring collection next weekend for World Communications Day (Mass Media).
WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY This year’s World Communications Day is celebrated on Sunday, 21st May 2023. The theme comes from Ephesians 4:15, Speaking with the heart – ‘The truth in love’. In his message to mark the day, Pope Francis stresses the need to listen before speaking truth with a pure heart to “see beyond appearances and overcome the vague din which, in the field of information, does not help us discern in the complicated world in which we live.”
The Holy Father, warning against indifference and indignation, hails the example of the great Doctor of the Church, St Francis de Sales, in particular his commitment to patient, heartfelt dialogue. A gifted theologian, his phrase ‘Heart speaks to heart’ inspired many, none more so than the recently canonised Saint John Henry Newman, who chose the phrase as his cardinalatial motto, ‘Cor ad cor loquitur’. Catholics in England and Wales will remember with affection that ‘Heart speaks unto heart’ was also the theme for Pope Benedict XVI’s historic visit to the UK in 2010.
You will find information, resources, prayers and more on the Bishops’ Conference website: http://www.cbcew.org.uk/world-communications-day
PILGRIMS OF HOPE Bishop Bishop David is asking every parish to get involved in the next phase of the Synod for our diocese. Delegate Invitation Northampton Diocese Assembly on Saturday 15th July 2023 to join on the journey and represent your community at our diocesan assembly. Find out more and register at: https://pastoralministryoffice.org/assembly
Week 5 – 21st May
This week our delegates begin their preparation for the Assembly. Please pray for them and our whole diocese that we may all be open to the Holy Spirit. “But the laity, by their very vocation, seek the kingdom of God… They live in the ordinary circumstances of family and social life, from which the very web of their existence is woven. They are called there by God that they may work for the sanctification of the world from within as a leaven. In this way they may make Christ known to others.” Lumen Gentium 31

SLOUGH FOODBANK are appealing for more donations, the cost of living crisis has resulted in fewer donations and more clients and they are having to use their funds to buy food themselves to meet the current demand. The following link will take you to a list of items which they need. https://slough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help-2/foodbank-wishlist/
CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
