COMBINED EFFORTS FOR CHRISTMAS CHEER Christmas presented us with two opportunities to combine our efforts with the Giving Tree Initiative (first started in 2021) and the Senior Citizen’s Christmas Tea Party (2022). Two Giving Trees – in Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s – provided gifts for Burnham Care & Share and Ukraine families. Thanks to the generosity of this Parish, donations under both trees exceeded all our expectations. A letter of thanks from the Burnham Health Promotion Trust can be seen at the back of both Churches.
The Senior Citizen’s Christmas Tea Party was attended by more than 50 guests. We enjoyed an afternoon of culinary delights with Christmas presents for all and a very lively Christmas Carol sing- along with the choir. Both initiatives were as a result of multiple groups coming together to organise, prepare and facilitate on the day – namely St Vincent de Paul Society, Catholic Women’s League, members from the Parish Council and the Our Lady of Peace Choir. We can be very proud of our Parish, blessed with so many people who are willing to go above and beyond for the sake of our parishioners and for the glory of God.
RETROUVAILLE A Programme for Couples Struggling in their Marriages Help Your Marriage – Do you feel alone? Are you frustrated or angry with each other? Do you argue … or have you just stopped talking to each other? Does talking about it only make it worse? Retrouvaille is a programme to support couples who have difficulties in their marriage. It brings a positive focus, new hope and helps nourish and grow your marriage. Tens of thousands of couples headed for divorce have successfully saved their marriages by attending and using the tools provided. The programme helps spouses uncover or re-awaken the love, trust and commitment that originally brought them together. It helps them through difficult times whether they are disillusioned or in deep misery. There is no group therapy or group work. For confidential information about ‘Retrouvaille’ or to register for the next programme commencing with a Face to Face weekend in Welwyn Garden City on 24 – 26 February 2023, or a Virtual weekend on 6 – 9 July 2023, call or text 07887 296983 or 07973 380443 or email retrouvailleukinfo[AT]gmail.com – or visit www.retrouvaille.org.uk
OUR PARISH LIST OF THE SICK There is a book where you can enter the name of the person to be prayed for. In line with Data Protection legislation please obtain the consent of the person before entering their name in the book. This book will be placed on the altar during each Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church.
MASS INTENTIONS If you wish to book a Mass Intention please place the intention in an envelope, write the name of the person(s) who the Mass is for, whether Deceased or Intention, also the name of the person who is offering the Mass. This will avoid any disappointment on the Mass intentions not being offered on the requested date(s).
CONFIRMING OUR PARISH NAME In discussion with Bishop David recently, it has been decided to firm up the name of our combined Parish by combining the two names together in a new logo. Going forward we are ‘Our Lady of Peace and St Andrew’s’. The Bishop is happy with this slight amendment as it helps in some way for people to understand that we are truly one Parish and not two separate entities. You will see the new logo appearing across the Parish in future.
