SUNDAY OBLIGATION The Bishops of England and Wales have recently issued a statement regarding the return of the Sunday Obligation which had been suspended during the pandemic. It includes the following: “The pressing challenge of the pandemic have lessened significantly. We therefore believe that the reasons which have prevented Catholics from attending Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation no longer apply. We understand that there will be some members of our congregations who, for reasons of health, do not feel safe enough to return to Mass. It has always been the understanding of the Church that when the freedom of any Catholic to attend Mass in person is impeded for a serious reason, because of situations such as ill health, care for the sick or legitimate fear, this is not a breach of the Sunday Obligation.” The Sunday Obligation was reintroduced from the Feast of Pentecost. The full text of the Bishops’ letter can be viewed at: https://www.cbcew.org.uk/spring-plenary-2022-resolution-returning-to-mass-at-pentecost/
YOUTH GROUP Thank you to the youths who attended the pizza gathering a few weeks ago, it was great fun!. We are now delighted to announce our first official youth session will be on July 17th after 9.30am Mass, we aim to finish at 12.30pm. This is for both St Andrew’s and Our Lady of Peace Youths as the location will be alternated between both Churches every month. Parents are required to attend the first 10 minutes for registration and a walkthrough of the group’s plans going forward. Please register your interest for the group, or if you have any queries please contact olpyouth22[AT]gmail.com
HELP WANTED – VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Due to holidays and illness, one of our main projects in Slough – a food share hub – is in desperate need of volunteers/drivers to collect, sort and deliver food (to other charities) which is donated by several supermarkets 7 days per week.
How we operate… The food collections take place in the evenings, and are delivered to our Hub at Dukes House (Queensmere Shopping Centre) around 9.45pm, where a team of sorters unload the van, sort the food inside our premises and re-load the van with non-chilled goods ready for the following early morning deliveries (food which needs refrigeration is stored in our range of chillers overnight). The sorting typically takes up to an hour. The delivery driver arrives at Dukes House the following morning just before 7am to load the chilled food and set off on the delivery run. We use our Transit van for the collection and delivery, which only needs a standard UK driving licence.
So, in summary we urgently need more drivers to help with either the morning deliveries or evening collections, and helpers to unload and reload at Dukes House in the evenings. If you can spare some time to help this very worthy project, please contact John Goudie by text on 07712 650038 or email at admin[AT]sloughnightshelter.org as soon as possible. Thank you!
ST GILBERT’S MISSION PROJECT still continue raising funds. Small plastic bottles are available in the Church porches for any loose change you would like to donate to the St Gilbert’s Mission Project. Please return full bottles to Our Lady of Peace.
FR ANTHONY will be away from 7th June until 7th July, his absence will be covered by Fr Marek.
PARISH OFFICE Yvonne, as Parish Secretary, will be working in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 9.00am to 2.00pm. For all Parish matters please contact Yvonne via email on office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org or telephone the Parish office on 01628 605764 and leave a message.
PARISH SAFEGUARDING REPRESENTATIVE Máirín Comfort is our Parish Safeguarding Representative. The role of the Parish Safeguarding Officer is to provide support, advice and information on all matters concerning the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults in the parish. If you have any queries, please contact Máirín via the Parish office.
COVID There is still a risk associated with gathering for sustained periods in enclosed spaces and therefore we will continue to monitor our practices in the Churches to ensure we are as Covid secure as possible. Inside churches we encourage you to continue to wear a mask if possible. There will be no social distancing but please be sensitive to the needs of others around you. For those wishing to maintain social distance the right-hand side aisle (looking at the altar) will be reserved for this purpose. The sign of peace can be re-introduced, and holy water stoups filled up again. We should continue to ensure there is good ventilation, balancing this against the need for church heating, especially at this time. If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, stay at home. If you tested positive for COVID-19 and were in Church recently, stay at home and inform us immediately by calling 01628 605764 so that we can take the necessary steps. Thank you for your continued vigilance.
