WITH CURRENT GOVERNMENT RULES: PLEASE REMEMBER there is no duty or responsibility to come to Church, and there is NO obligation to attend Mass on Sunday, If you are feeling unwell please do not attend mass – stay at home.
STAYING ALERT is critical as we continue to follow Government rules and guidance. If you tested positive for COVID-19 and were in Church recently, stay at home and inform us immediately by calling 01628 605764. Thank you for your continued vigilance. Stay safe.
ZOLTAN TOROK Following the very sad news of the untimely death of one of our parishioners Zoltan Torok, many of you have been asking if, and how, you can support his wife Adriana and their 4 children, and now we have a couple of options available should you like to help ease the financial burden. Online – his wonderful work colleagues have set up a Go Fund Me site: https://gofund.me/dfc8b82c where you can place your donation. Alternatively – you can place your contribution in an envelope marked ‘Zoltan’s’ and either hand to Fr Joe or place in one of the baskets after Mass. Thank you to you all for reaching out so quickly and compassionately to help one of our family. May God bless you all.
SLOUGH FOODBANK wish to thank you for your kind support and recent donations to Slough Foodbank. We received your donation during April which weighed a total of 44.6kg. Each gift makes an enormous difference to families and individuals who are most in need in our local community. To explain how your donation will help, approximately 10kg of essential food items and 1kg of toiletry items provide a single person with three days of emergency supplies.
Our prime function is to supply a three-day emergency food parcel to those who suddenly find themselves in an unexpected crisis. In addition to food, we also supply basic toiletries and household products, as well as nappies, baby wipes and pet food if required. However, our support does not stop there. Slough Foodbank also provides useful information to our clients about relevant specialist organisations that are able to help resolve any longer term problems our clients may have. By providing this package of support, we endeavour to offer a lasting hand-up to help our clients make a positive move into the future. Your support is needed now more than ever.
Slough Foodbank statistics for 2020 show a shocking increase in the number of people needing help, with 37% more food parcels distributed versus 2019. A total of 6,533 food parcels. We hope that you will continue to support Slough Foodbank. Should you wish to make another donation, please visit our website at www.slough.foodbank.org.uk/give-help where you will find our “shopping list” which includes all the items that we need most at this time. We ask if you could kindly only donate the items specified on our shopping list on the noticeboard in the porch. It is also most helpful to receive small packs rather than in bulk.
GIFT AID OFFERTORY ENVELOPES If in previous years you used envelopes, the new envelopes from April 2021 have been distributed, please write your name on the outside of your envelope for the next couple of weeks. If you are currently not able to attend Mass to return your envelope please drop through the Presbytery door (only if safe for you to go out). If you are a UK taxpayer, you could add 25p to every £1 that you give to your Parish (at no cost to yourself) through Gift Aid.
If you would like to make your offering via a Standing Order, you can set up a standing order for donations to the parish using either your online bank account or in branch. The information you require to make this donation is as follows: Bank: NatWest. Sort Code; 60-06-11. Account Name; 46716203. Account Name; RCDN Our Lady of Peace. Payment Ref: Our Lady of Peace, Slough. Or through this link: https://northamptondiocese.org/wp-content/uploads/GAD-general-June-18-v2-revision.pdf Please contact Yvonne if you require any further information or wish to request for offertory envelopes on 01628 605764 or email office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org
ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY IS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS The St Vincent de Paul Society (England & Wales) is part of an international Christian voluntary network dedicated to tackling poverty in all its forms by providing practical assistance to people in need. Members, motivated by their faith, visit vulnerable or isolated people across England and Wales and offer them friendship and practical support. The essence of their work is person-to-person contact and spending time with people is their greatest gift. During this time of pandemic, their work has been more valuable than ever.
Despite not being able to carry out personal visits, they have continued to contact people by phone and have been particularly concerned for the mental well-being of those in need. We have merged the existing SVP Groups from each Parish within the Slough Pastoral Area to create one Slough Conference and are looking for volunteers who would be interested in joining to help those in need in our Parish and the surrounding areas. If you feel you could help with this very worthy cause or would like some more information, please contact the Parish office by email office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org.
CATHOLIC CONVERSATIONS – ‘LUCKY DIP’ continues Wednesday evenings on Zoom at 7.30pm. (Zoom will be open at 7.15pm). The subject matter will be wide ranging covering all aspects of our faith. If you feel this could help you in your understanding of the Catholic Faith then please contact Bob on 01628 543650 or bobryant144[AT]gmail.com to be included in the group.
SETTLEMENT SCHEME FOR EUROPEAN CITIZENS A reminder that EU, EEA and Swiss citizens who were living in the UK by 31 December 2020 have until 30 June 2021 to apply for the Settlement Scheme. Those who do not apply are at risk of losing their rights to live and work here or access important services such as healthcare. Please note that Irish citizens do not need to apply. All the relevant information can be found on the official Government website (www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families), from the European Commission (www.eurights.uk/what-you-need-to-know) or from the charity Settled (www.settled.org.uk).
PARISH OFFICE Yvonne has returned to her duties as Parish Secretary, albeit working from home for two days per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9.00am to 2.00pm, until further notice. For all Parish matters please contact Yvonne via email on office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org or Fr Joseph via email on frjosephudoh[AT]northamptondiocese.org or you can telephone the Parish office on 01628 605764 and leave a message.
A PARISHIONER HAS VERY KINDLY OFFERED TO PRINT AND DELIVER A COPY OF OUR WEEKLY BULLETIN to those unable to attend Mass each week, this would only be posted through the letterbox. If you know of anyone who would like a copy delivered, please contact Yvonne via email or contact the Parish office on 01628 605764. Please obtain the permission of the Parishioner to provide their address to Yvonne.
FEELING ISOLATED? We realise there are many parishioners who are not on our data base who may be feeling isolated from the Parish because they hear nothing from us. To enable us to reach out and find out where people live and how they are managing, we are making a plea for Parishioners to contact people – via telephone or from a 2m distance wearing a mask, who have no access to the internet and encourage them to provide a telephone number to allow us to check on how they are. If you know of any parishioner please let Yvonne know, either via email office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org or telephone the office on 01628 605764.
