FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT (YEAR A)

News
REMEMBER to put your clocks forward this weekend, British Summer time begins on Sunday, 29th March.
COVID – 19 CORONAVIRUS
Updates:
Cessation of public liturgies, including the Holy Mass, which came into effect from Friday 20th March 2020, will continue until further notice. Recent government instructions on Social Distancing also mean that sadly, we cannot, against earlier advice, leave the Church open for private prayers and devotions.
Because of the situation the Church finds herself in, the obligation for the faithful to attend Holy Mass on a Sunday or Holy day of Obligation is removed, until further notice. However, I will continue to celebrate a private Mass and will fulfil the intentions already booked with the Parish every day (including Saturdays and Sundays) at 9.30am. Perhaps you could join in Spirit as the Masses are offered for you and make a Spiritual Communion. You can participate from home in Masses that I am now able to stream live on facebook: ourladyofpeacecatholicchurchburnham. From next week all Masses will stream live at 9.30am.
Live streaming services are also available from Northampton Cathedral https://northamptondiocese.org/live/ or from The National Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham https://walsingham.org.uk/live-stream or follow Masses on EWTN and other TV Channels.
In your daily prayers, more than ever, pray for one another and pray with your family. The notion of the family as the domestic Church is even more relevant now. The faith will have to be sustained in our families. The SVP and other charitable arms of the Church will try to reach out to the vulnerable. Strict hygiene protocols will be maintained, especially when distribution of goods are involved. Should any Parishioner be directly affected by the virus and need support, please ring or email the Parish office. As a matter of duty, let us continue to support and pray for one another. The main reason for all these changes is to protect those who are vulnerable, many of whom are in our parish family.
Parish Response:
Are you able to join a team we are putting together to search out and respond to the needs of parishioners and people in the local community in these challenging times? Please email the parish to register your interest, and for more information on how to get involved, on: frjosephudoh[AT]northamptondiocese.org; office.ourladyofpeace[AT]northamptondiocese.org or yvonnecaff[AT]talktalk.net. (N.B. Selecting an email link opens your default email client.)
Visit our website ourladyofpeacerc.org or the Facebook page: ourladyofpeacecatholicchurchburnham for updates, especially about Holy Week celebrations. Thank you for your continued support and keep safe.
Confession and Easter Duties:
In these emergency circumstances, and for as long as they last, the obligation to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation and receive Holy Communion, especially at Easter is removed. Catholics are also dispensed from Easter duties for the year 2020. You are however, encouraged to make a Perfect Act of Contrition at this time. Perfect contrition is a true and real sorrow for our sins which is created when we realise the immense love of God for each one of us. We express this contrition when we realise how we offend God by our sinful words, deeds and omissions in contrast to the immeasurable love and mercy that he continually shows us.
An Act of Contrition:
My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy.
FINANCES Thank you to those who have asked how the Parish and the Parish Priest can be supported in these trying times. It is very difficult to avoid mentioning finances at this time, although I do need to bring to your attention the fact that because a large majority of income for parishes is via the collection plate, the Diocesan Finance office have made options available to allow parishioners to support their Parish and Parish priest through this time of not being able to attend Mass. Church income will significantly reduce as a result of the current cessation of public liturgies. We have received the following information and guidance from the Finance Office at Northampton Diocese.
ONLINE DONATION We have an online donation facility on our main Diocesan website through Virgin Money giving (link below). If you use this option we ask that you please indicate in the notes section which parish, including the parish name and area or which priest, including his full name that you would like your donation to be attributed to. Please note that there is the facility to Gift Aid any donation to your Parish but donations to individual priests are not eligible for Gift Aid. Please therefore do not complete the Gift Aid option for any donation to a priest. Visit northamptondiocese.org/donate (or use the donate button below).
Standing Order via donor’s own bank: You can set up a standing order for donations to your parish using either your online bank account or in branch. You can also make a one-off payment to the parish or Parish Priest.
The information required to make the donation is as follows:
Bank: NatWest.
Sort Code; 60-06-11.
Account Name; 46716203. Account Name; RCDN Our Lady of Peace.
Payment Ref: Our Lady of Peace, Slough or Parish Priests Easter offering.
Donation by Post: You may send any donations to the parish, either dropping through the letterbox in the Presbytery door, or by post. If you are posting please do not post cash, cheque only. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Our Lady of Peace’.
Standing Order via the form which is available on our Diocesan website under – Diocese – Departments – Finance and then within the Gift Aid paragraph.
You can complete the attached standing order form for donations to your parish with the option to Gift Aid. Please indicate on this form if you are not a tax payer but would like to set up a standing order only. There are two sides/sheets to this form, it should be printed, completed, signed and returned to our Parish office, we will then forward to central offices at Bishop’s House for processing at a later date. Please remember to state which parish this standing is for ‘For the benefit of Our Lady of Peace, Slough Parish’ section at the top of the form. Banks will require 7 working days from receipt of these forms to activate the request so please ensure the start date reflects this 7 day period to ensure the S.O can take effect.
Thank you for any help you are able to give. Fr Joseph
POPE FRANCIS’ SPECIAL URBI ET ORBI BLESSING The Pope meditated on the calming of the storm from the Gospel of Mark during the prayer service held on the steps of St Peter’s Basilica last Friday evening. Use this link to view the text on the Vatican News website.
CATHOLIC NEWSPAPERS Due to the Coronavirus many of the Catholic Newspapers are available online at www.ChurchPaper.co.uk. Parishioners can stay in contact with their Church and their community, and hopefully it will help people who feel isolated and share some hope in our communities.
MISSIO Out of sight but not out of mind. Your RED BOXES and Spring copy of the magazine are ready for distribution but are held in abeyance until the coronavirus pandemic is reviewed by the church and declared eliminated. Our churches will then receive authority to function normally and MISSIO will give notice to recommence activities. Needless to say, the MISSIO National Director, Fr Tony Chantry, expresses deep gratitude to all who give financial assistance to the great cause. Our donations last year, both by Red Boxes and direct payments, amounted to a published figure of £3194.79. An amount much greater than this would have been reported if my year had run smoothly.
Unfortunately, my own indisposition, (late October to New Year), left 2 amounts uncounted and not banked therefore leaving a published figure of £3194.79. These 2 amounts totalling £859.81 will be carried forward to the figure for year 2020.The coronavirus pandemic has further disrupted banking and the Red Box swap-over. However all is set for the ‘off’’. All Boxes are ready (as above), thoroughly washed in soapy water and your Spring magazine may be accompanied by the Summer magazine. However, there is no ‘sell by’ date in the news of missionary work. It’s always there to be done! Many thanks for bringing and taking Boxes and Magazines when you attend Mass, it is so helpful! If you are short of a Box please use a jam jar or similar until the real thing arrives. John Barry

ST PATRICK’S EVENING Unfortunately due to the Covid – 19 Coronavirus it was necessary to cancel the evening at the last minute. Anyone who bought tickets may hold on to them for use at an event later in the year, however if you would prefer to have your money back, then please write your name and address on the back of your ticket and drop in to the Parish office and you will be refunded.

In line with Data Protection legislation please obtain the consent of the person before entering their name in the book. This book will be placed on the altar during each Mass in Our Lady of Peace Church.
MASS OFFERING FORMS are available in the Church porches which you can complete for any Mass intentions you wish to have offered. Please return the form, with your offering, in an envelope and hand to Fr Joseph or Yvonne, or leave in the Sacristy or Presbytery.
