REPORT: The Slough Sleepout for the Homeless is over for another year and what a cold night! The atmosphere was excellent and everyone was in great form. We were so glad to head back to our warm beds the following morning. While sleeping outside with not much more than cardboard for shelter, was a tough challenge for one night, it was but a mere taster of what homeless people on our streets have to endure – night after night.
It is difficult to put into words just how grateful we are to you and to everyone who played a part in this event. 100 people participated on the night and over £40,000 has been raised so far this exceeds our target for the funds needed to run the Winter Night Shelter once again this winter!
The Winter Night Shelter is going from strength to strength. Last year 50 people were accommodated across three and a half months , 22 of these went on to find permanent accommodation and 11 found employment. The importance of providing that safe, warm place across the darkest coldest months cannot be stressed enough as we can see that it is helping many to move out of the downward spiral they are in and to regain their lives.
Thank you so much for your help , prayers and sponsorship – we simply could not have achieved so much without you!

GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR) YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED! You may be aware that new data protection legislation came into force in the UK on 25th May 2018. It governs how personal data is processed and we as a Parish now need to obtain your informed consent to continue to use your personal data in our Parish. GDPR covers the personal data (e.g. addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses) we collect and hold in our Parish to ensure you as Parishioners can be contacted, for example for preparation to receive the Sacraments, when organising Parish group meetings or rotas, or to process Gift Aid donations. ‘Informed consent’ means that we tell you how we process and use your data, so that you can decide whether to give your consent for its use within the Parish to continue.
If we do not receive a written consent from you, we have to remove your details from our Parish register and from any groups to which you may belong. Consent forms can be found at the Church porches, we ask that these are returned to the Presbytery, as soon as possible. A separate Consent Form is required for each adult within each family. A Data Privacy Notice sets out how the Parish processes personal data, and a copy of the Data Privacy Notice is available here on the Parish website, or from the Parish office. If you have any questions, please contact the Parish office.
PARISH MASS BOOKS 📚 We are using Volume 1 of the Mass books for Year C. As with Year A and Year B, books if you would like to donate £1.95 for one of these books, or £7.95 for the large print books, please feel free to do so, and we will enter into the book a dedication for your intention. Just put into an envelope the offering and the name(s) you wish inscribed in the book(s) and hand to Yvonne at the Sacristy or Presbytery: for a deceased person please add ‘RIP’ to the name or names; for someone alive, please add ‘Intention’.
If you have taken one of the Parish Mass books home by accident, please could you return it as soon as possible.
CAR PARKING Please when using the car park at the rear of Our Lady of Peace Church please keep the middle lane clear, this provides access for an emergency vehicle if necessary. Also we ask that you take care not to block pavements or the corner of the road leading into St Michael’s Court. It is very difficult for residents of St Michael’s Court to access Lower Britwell Road when cars are parked on the corner obstructing the view onto the road. 🚗
DIOCESAN DIRECTORY Copies available in the Church porches, now priced £2.00.
USED STAMPS FOR THE MISSIONS Please save your stamps and put in the boxes available in the Church porches. Over the years used stamps have been collected at Slough and have been sold on to raise funds for work undertaken in schools, hospitals and Parishes by Sisters, Brothers, Lay People and Priests in the developing world. The used stamps are sold on to Dealers and Collectors, and the proceeds used to assist in funding Church projects abroad. This can be done here in this Parish by as many people as possible depositing as many stamps as is possible in the Stamps for the Missions box in the Church porch.
