SLOUGH WINTER NIGHT SHELTER Once again I call upon your generosity as we sleep outside on the night of the 24th November in a cardboard box. We do this for one night every year to raise funds and ensure the continuity of the Slough Winter Night Shelter. Now in its 4th year, the Shelter provides a safe, warm place to sleep for up to 50 rough sleepers with a hot meal and breakfast served.
To give you an idea of the importance of this initiative, last winter, of the 50 that were sheltered, 22 went on to find permanent accommodation and 11 found employment. This is so much more than providing basic food and shelter. It gives homeless people a chance to take a step outside of a downward spiral. The Shelter also saves lives. Enduring temperatures that reach well below zero it is unimaginable how awful it must be for anyone to live outdoors. We do it for just one night and it is an extremely tough experience – every time. The simple joy of returning to a warm home and a hot shower is indescribable.
I hope you can support us this year as we join with over 100 others to raise funds. This link will take you to the mydonate site where our team can be supported. Thank you, on behalf of our team, but most of all, thank you on behalf of the homeless people who will be helped again this winter.

GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR) YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED! You may be aware that new data protection legislation came into force in the UK on 25th May 2018. It governs how personal data is processed and we as a Parish now need to obtain your informed consent to continue to use your personal data in our Parish. GDPR covers the personal data (e.g. addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses) we collect and hold in our Parish to ensure you as Parishioners can be contacted, for example for preparation to receive the Sacraments, when organising Parish group meetings or rotas, or to process Gift Aid donations. ‘Informed consent’ means that we tell you how we process and use your data, so that you can decide whether to give your consent for its use within the Parish to continue.
If we do not receive a written consent from you, we have to remove your details from our Parish register and from any groups to which you may belong. Consent forms can be found at the Church porches, we ask that these are returned to the Presbytery, as soon as possible. A separate Consent Form is required for each adult within each family. A Data Privacy Notice sets out how the Parish processes personal data, and a copy of the Data Privacy Notice is available here on the Parish website, or from the Parish office. If you have any questions, please contact the Parish office.
PARISH MASS BOOKS 📚 We are using Volume 2 of the Mass books for Year B. As with Year A and Year C, books if you would like to donate £1.95 for one of these books, or £7.95 for the large print books, please feel free to do so, and we will enter into the book a dedication for your intention. Just put into an envelope the offering and the name(s) you wish inscribed in the book(s) and hand to Yvonne at the Sacristy or Presbytery: for a deceased person please add ‘RIP’ to the name or names; for someone alive, please add ‘Intention’.
If you have taken one of the Parish Mass books home by accident, please could you return it as soon as possible.
CAR PARKING Please when using the car park at the rear of Our Lady of Peace Church please keep the middle lane clear, this provides access for an emergency vehicle if necessary. Also we ask that you take care not to block pavements or the corner of the road leading into St Michael’s Court. It is very difficult for residents of St Michael’s Court to access Lower Britwell Road when cars are parked on the corner obstructing the view onto the road. 🚗
DIOCESAN DIRECTORY Copies available in the Church porches, now priced £2.00.
USED STAMPS FOR THE MISSIONS Please save your stamps and put in the boxes available in the Church porches. Over the years used stamps have been collected at Slough and have been sold on to raise funds for work undertaken in schools, hospitals and Parishes by Sisters, Brothers, Lay People and Priests in the developing world. The used stamps are sold on to Dealers and Collectors, and the proceeds used to assist in funding Church projects abroad. This can be done here in this Parish by as many people as possible depositing as many stamps as is possible in the Stamps for the Missions box in the Church porch.
